Sorolla Museum

The Sorolla Museum is dedicated to the works of the painter Joaquin Sorolla (Valencia, 1863-Cercedilla, Madrid, 1923).

It was created in 1931, when the Spanish State accepted the legacy of Sorolla's widow, Mrs. Clotilde García del Castillo, who donated the building and all its collections to create a museum in memory of her husband.

The Museum is housed in the house and workshop that the painter had built in 1910-1911. The house is divided into five main areas:

- the garden, created by the painter himself;

- the ground floor, old kitchen area, organized around the so-called Patio Andaluz;

- his work area, consisting of three successive studios;

- the rest of the main floor of the house;

- and the second floor, transformed into exhibition rooms.

A top floor is reserved for the museum offices.


Sorolla Museum opening hours:

Open: Tuesday to Saturday from 9.30 to 20.00h. Sundays: from 10.00 to 3:00 p.m.

Closed: Mondays, January 1st and 6th, May 1st, November 9th, December 24th, 25th, 31st
